How We Review Providers
What goes into every carrier comparison on this site, in order of weight.
When we compare SR-22 and high-risk auto insurance providers, we score them against the criteria below. This is what actually matters to someone who needs a filing done correctly and on time — not overall brand size or ad spend.
1. Filing Speed & Method
Can the carrier file your SR-22 electronically with the state, and how fast? Same-day or next-day electronic filing is weighted heavily — a mailed paper filing can add a week you may not have.
2. State Availability
SR-22 rules and carrier licensing vary by state. We note explicitly where a provider is a national fit versus a regional or single-state specialist.
3. Non-Owner & Situational Coverage
Not everyone filing an SR-22 owns a car. We weight whether a carrier offers non-owner policies, and whether they handle edge cases like a second violation or a suspended (not just restricted) license.
4. Cost, Where We Can Verify It
Actual premiums depend on your individual driving record, so we don't publish fake "starting at $X" numbers. Where a carrier publishes filing fees or typical rate ranges, we cite that directly and note the source.
5. Complaint Ratios & Financial Strength
Where available, we reference state insurance department complaint index data and independent financial strength ratings (e.g., AM Best) rather than customer testimonials, which are easy to cherry-pick.
What We Don't Weight
- Affiliate commission rate — see our affiliate disclosure.
- Ad spend or brand recognition alone.
- Star ratings pulled from review aggregators without context.
How Rankings Get Updated
Carrier comparison pages are reviewed on the same quarterly cycle as the rest of the site. If a carrier changes its filing process, exits a state, or adjusts non-owner availability, we update the relevant page and note the change.
